KUTNÁ HORA & ČESKÝ ŠTERNBERK
Czech Republic
Silver, Bones & a Castle Where History Still Lives

Medieval silver, royal fortunes and the extraordinary Bone Church in Kutná Hora. Then a journey through the Bohemian countryside to a castle where centuries of history become the story of one remarkable aristocratic family.
[ A PERSONAL INVITATION ]
From the grand story of a medieval kingdom to the story of one family.
We’ll begin in Kutná Hora, a city whose silver once made it one of the most important centers of the Kingdom of Bohemia. Here, miners, royal coins, magnificent Gothic architecture and the extraordinary Sedlec Ossuary reveal a world shaped by wealth, faith and power.
Discover two very different chapters of Czech history in one fascinating day.
Then we leave the city behind and travel through the Bohemian countryside to Český Šternberk Castle, dramatically positioned above the Sázava River.

Here, history becomes much more personal — a story of one aristocratic family navigating changing monarchies, wars, political regimes, communism, confiscation and restitution.

A NOTE FROM NATALIA
What fascinates me about this journey is how history changes from something enormous into something deeply personal.
In Kutná Hora, we talk about silver, kings, religion and the wealth of an entire medieval city.

At Český Šternberk, those centuries of history become the story of a family — and suddenly events we know from history books feel much closer.
[ THE EXPERIENCE ]
From medieval silver and royal power to a castle where history still lives.
Our journey begins in Kutná Hora, the medieval silver-mining city whose extraordinary wealth once made it one of the most important centers of the Kingdom of Bohemia. We’ll visit the remarkable Sedlec Ossuary — the famous Bone Church — before continuing into the historic center and discovering the magnificent Cathedral of St. Barbara.

Along the way, we’ll explore the world of medieval miners, royal coins and Gothic architecture, and discover how the silver hidden beneath this region created enormous fortunes and transformed the city above it.
Silver, bones & medieval Kutná Hora.
Kutná Hora tells the grand story of medieval wealth, religion and royal power. From thousands of human bones arranged inside the Sedlec Ossuary to the soaring Gothic architecture of St. Barbara’s Cathedral, it is a city filled with extraordinary contrasts and unexpected stories.
A castle where history becomes personal.
Then we travel to Český Šternberk Castle, founded in the 13th century and closely connected with the Sternberg family. Here we’ll explore aristocratic life through the centuries and discover how a family legacy survived changing monarchies, wars, political regimes, confiscation, communism and restitution.
[ MORE THAN SIGHTSEEING ]
Two places. Two very different ways to understand history.
My hope is that you’ll leave remembering both sides of the journey — the grand medieval story of Kutná Hora and the much more intimate story of Český Šternberk, where centuries of Central European history can be understood through the experience of one family.
